Dear colleague,
The members of the Rutgers Adjunct Faculty Union have voted to endorse Brian Varela as the Democratic candidate for Congress in New Jersey’s 7th CD and to endorse Ali Aljarrah in the race for Passaic County Commissioner.
Read more about the candidates below:
Brian Varela is a progressive who endorses Medicare for All, and believes in dismantling ICE and protecting democratic institutions. In his answers to our candidate questionnaire, he also highlighted his support for affordable higher education, research funding, and contingent faculty. Read about his platform here.
Ali Aljarrah has been a leader in our legislative coalition spaces, particularly in fighting the bill to adopt the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism and in support of the New Jersey Immigrant Trust Act (ITA) . Aljarrah has been a good ally to our union and aligns with our values. Read about his platform here.
Our union has also endorsed the following candidates (through prior member referendums):
- Adam Hamawy (CD-12)
- LaMonica McIver (CD-10)
- Abdur Yasin (Essex County Commissioner At-Large)
We are proud to endorse all of these candidates and encourage members in those districts to vote for them in the upcoming election tomorrow, June 2.
In solidarity,
The Executive Board of the Rutgers Adjunct Faculty Union
