Last week, rank-and-file members of the Rutgers Adjunct Faculty Union voted in a referendum on whether or not to endorse Councilman James Solomon for Jersey City mayor in the December 2nd run-off election.
The members of the Rutgers Adjunct Faculty Union have voted to endorse Councilman James Solomon as the next mayor of Jersey City. This means that we are aligned with the Executive Council of the Rutgers AAUP-AFT, who earlier this week also voted to endorse Councilman Solomon at the recommendation of our Joint Legislative Committee.
Councilman Solomon has a proven track record of supporting affordable development in his city and the rights of tenants. He has built an impressive grassroots campaign focused on making Jersey City an affordable home for working-class people, fighting corruption, and protecting all its residents from the aggressive actions of the Trump administration. His housing, education, and transportation plans put people first, not developers. He has committed to working with the state government to address the funding needs of higher education in his city. He has pledged to use every tool available to ensure Jersey City remains a sanctuary city, to refuse cooperation with ICE, and to fund the city’s legal support and resources for immigrants.
Councilman Solomon represents a progressive future for Jersey City and the State of New Jersey. We endorse his candidacy for mayor and encourage members in the city to vote and canvass for him in the upcoming December 2nd election.
In solidarity,
The Executive Board of the Rutgers Adjunct Faculty Union
